A 34-year-old Anaheim man has died after he was struck by a vehicle suspected to be involved in street racing as he was turning into his own driveway.
Anaheim police said that Tarek Hamed was turning into the driveway of the Regency Plaza Apartment Homes in the 1500 block of W. Ball Road when his car was hit by a Nissan Maxima speeding west on Ball Road from Walnut Street. Police believe that the Maxima was involved in illegal street racing and lost control before smashing into Hamed’s Toyota Camry. Hamed was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Maxima was driven by Jorge Esteban Lunas Martinez, 18, of Anaheim, who was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI and driving without a license. He was not injured, but his 17-year-old female passenger was hospitalized with injuries.
