A 30-year-old Downey man who was a former Marine has died after his motorcycle was hit by an SUV in Downey.
The Downey Police Department said that Calvin Spencer was riding his motorcycle south on Paramount Boulevard when a 79-year-old woman in a black SUV pulled out of a driveway at 11917 Paramount in front of him. Spencer’s motorcycle crashed into the SUV and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV driver, who is a Downey resident, was not injured in the crash and police said they did not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the fatal crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Spencer served in Iraq and was co-founder of Bastard’s American Canteen restaurant in Downey, a place for veterans and their families to gather to celebrate their military service.
