Two-year-old Kaydence Hampton, of Lake Forest, has died from injuries she sustained in an Irvine car accident that killed her grandmother and seriously injured her mother and brother, according to a news report.
Katherine Hampton, 54, of Lake Forest, was driving a Chevy Cruze with her adult daughter and two grandchildren — two-year-old Kaydence and her 7-year-old brother — when she became involved in a three-car crash near the intersection of Muirlands Boulevard and Alton Parkway. Details on the cause of the collision were not released but police believe it may have been related to street racing.
Katherine Hampton was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter and grandchildren were taken to the hospital in serious condition. Both grandchildren suffered cardiac arrest; Kaydence could not be stabilized and died of her injuries. Her brother and mother remain hospitalized in stable condition.
Alec Scott Abraham, 20, of Costa Mesa, was the driver of a black Mustang involved in the crash. He fled the scene on foot and was later arrested by Irvine police in Costa Mesa. A woman driving a Honda Civic who was also involved in the crash was hospitalized for a brief time and released.
