A 73-year-old Cerritos woman has been killed and six other people, including the deceased woman’s granddaughter, were injured after an SUV crashed into a Buena Park ice cream parlor, according to a news report.
The Orange County Fire Dept. said that a Suzuki XL7 SUV accelerated out of a parking space at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour, 8650 Beach Blvd., and ran into a group of people standing and sitting outside the shop. The SUV hit Marisa Malin, who was sitting on a bench, and pinned her underneath the vehicle; she was taken to UCI Irvine Medical Center in Orange where she was pronounced dead.
Malin’s 13-year-old granddaughter was also taken to UCI Irvine Medical Center with moderate injuries. Four other victims – including an 11-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl, a 40-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old man – were taken to area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. A man in his 50s was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The SUV driver, identified only as a man in his 70s, was not injured and stayed at the scene to be questioned by police.
