One man was killed and the driver was injured when a 2011 Jeep veered off the road and plowed through a fence into a San Juan Capistrano schoolyard, according to a news report.
Authorities said that witnesses reported seeing the Jeep run a red light and sideswipe another car before crashing onto the campus of Marco Foster Middle School, which is not currently in session. The driver was able to crawl out before the Jeep burst into flames; his passenger died at the scene.
The Jeep driver was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment of his injuries; the identities of the men have not yet been released.
