Eleven-year-old Joshua Archila of Orange was killed and his mother and eight-year-old sister sustained major injuries in a multi-car accident on I-15 in Riverside County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a truck driven by David Rudder, 55, of Santa Ana slammed into the back of a 2000 Camry driven by Archila’s father, Erick Archila, 36. It was estimated the truck was going 55 to 60 mph at the time of impact.
Archila, who was riding in the right rear passenger seat, was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries. His 30-year-old mother and 8-year-old sister suffered major injuries in the accident, and have been hospitalized. Rudder was taken to a local medical center and treated for minor injuries.
The CHP said that the force of the impact caused a chain reaction accident, with Archila’s car slamming into the back of a 2005 Camry, which then struck a 2005 Suzuki Forenza. An investigation into the crash is currently underway.
