A 15-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was killed after he was hit by an SUV in an Irvine bicycle accident, according to a news report.
Duane Parkison, 42, a detective with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office and an Irvine resident, was riding his bicycle north on Shady Canyon when he was struck by a Mercedes SUV going in the same direction.
Irvine police said that two other cyclists were performing CPR on Parkison when they arrived; he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He is survived by a wife and three children ages 15, 12 and 4.
The 35-year-old female driver of the Mercedes and an infant who was a passenger in the SUV were unharmed. Police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident, and no arrests have yet been made.
Donations to the Duane Parkison Memorial Fund can be made at any Arrowhead Credit Union location.
