A 54-year-old Gardena woman has been killed and four others injured in a wrong-way collision on northbound I-405 in Irvine, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that Rieko Toyama was driving a 2010 Nissan sedan the wrong way on the northbound I-405 when she collided head-on with a 2014 BMW near Harvard Avenue. The impact caused the Nissan to flip and Toyama was partially ejected from the vehicle; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The BMW driver — Hassan Kadri, 29, of Westminster — and his passenger, 29-year-old Sabina Teodorescu of Fountain Valley, were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange with major injuries. Kadri was hospitalized in critical condition.
Isabelo and Zoima Millanar of Westminster, both in their 70s, were driving a silver 2008 Mercedes-Benz that crashed into the Nissan after it had flipped. Both were taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana with traumatic injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
